in the german edition the question is raised and answered if the "faithful and discreet slaves" encourages biblestudy groups who study "deeper" topics.
obviously the answer is "no" don't do that the slaves feeds you more than enough.. i could do with an english copy.

MyJWSpace Update 7/24
by WTWizard inout of curiosity, i checked out the myjwspace site mentioned in an earlier thread to see if it was growing.
as of now, there are 64 members on the whole site, and a grand total of (all this) one post on the whole forum!
of course, without joining, there is no way to read those posts to cut and paste segments of it here to tear them apart.. they have a chat room where they claim all the people are jws, the topics are safe, and they can be themselves (as dull and preprogrammed as they can get).

Hoping someone can direct me...
by Shepherd Book inthere was a thread in the last six months wherein someone proposed giving a #3 talk that started out by having the householder show a clipping from a catholic newsletter.
this clipping gave warnings about researching other religions and talked about how only catholics have the truth.
after the talk-giver spoke for a few minutes about how wrong the catholic church was for saying these things, the householder then points out that it was really a clipping from a watchtower, just with a few bits of lingo changed.. does anyone know which thread this was?

'The good outweighs the bad'. I don't think so.
by ThomasCovenant infor most of my 30 years in the 'truth' (age 12-42 thereabouts) i have always doubted many many things taught from the watchtower.
however like many if not most of those brought up in it i got swallowed up in the whole social side of it.
bringing up children in it i told myself that it wasn't such a bad life after all.

How about birthdays?
by molybdenum inhi... i'm a newbie here.
i have been associated with jw's for quite some time however there is one aspect of being a witness that i can't quite come to terms with that is the prohibition on celebrating a person's birthday i have of course read the arguments for this but find them somewhat unconvincing.
is it really the case that everyone follows this direction?
